The structure was designed as part of the remodeling and expansion project of the "Shopping City" Sibiu commercial complex, consisting of the design of a roof of about 1,600 square meters, in the middle of which was placed an elliptical skylight 27 m long and 10 m width.
Elliptical roof light
The difficulties of the project were due to the large opening of the roof, which could only be supported around the perimeter, on 13 reinforced concrete pillars. The skylight rested on the beams with the perimeter lattices, which formed the structure of the roof and which were fixed to the support posts by articulated joints.
In the transverse direction, at the ends of the skylight, the perimeter beams were supported by the introduction of two triangular spatial trusses. Both the general structural analysis and the detailed shell analyzes for the more sensitive areas, such as the skylight plinth beam, were carried out using the ConSteel structural analysis program.
The new version of ConSteel 13 includes several unique features for faithful modeling, accurate analysis and efficient design of thin-walled bar elements. Thus, there is the option to parameterize sections of the Sigma, Z, C, Omega or Zeta type or you can create personalized sections, according to the shape desired by the user.
Additionally, panels placed on a 3D model can now be checked using the new panel line design option using any of the section types listed above.
Overlap areas, respectively supports can be defined and added to the model. Glass configuration: 8mm Float ESG + Laminate 4.4.2 Low E, Ar 90%.
More extensively, 8mm thick safety glass (ESG) was used, enclosed in a heat-insulating package, in an Argon environment, with a safety glass, consisting of 2 sheets of 4mm, glued (laminated) with 2 foils of PVB (polyvinylbutyral), with a thickness of 0.76 mm.
